Scarlet Nantes is the gold standard of heirloom carrots — crisp, sweet, and brilliantly orange from tip to top. One of the most popular carrot varieties ever grown, this classic French heirloom produces nearly coreless, cylindrical roots 6–7 inches long with a smooth skin and exceptional flavor. Whether eaten fresh from the garden, juiced, or roasted, Scarlet Nantes delivers every time.

Why Gardeners Love Scarlet Nantes

  • Nearly coreless with a tender, crisp texture — outstanding fresh eating quality
  • Brilliant scarlet-orange color all the way through
  • Uniform, cylindrical shape — easy to harvest and prep
  • Excellent for juicing, snacking, roasting, and storage
  • Open-pollinated, non-GMO — save seeds year after year

When to Plant

Direct sow 2–4 weeks before your last frost date in spring, or in late summer for a fall harvest. Carrots prefer loose, well-draining soil with a temperature between 45–85°F (optimal 60–70°F). Do not transplant — carrots do not like root disturbance. Thin seedlings to 2–3 inches apart for best root development.

Growing Tips

  • Sow seeds ¼ inch deep, 1 inch apart in rows 12 inches apart
  • Keep soil consistently moist until germination (10–17 days)
  • Loosen soil to at least 12 inches deep for best root development
  • Harvest at 65–70 days when roots reach ¾ inch in diameter

All seeds are open-pollinated, non-GMO, and untreated.
